Alabama is a popular state; there are movies, music and even drinks dedicated to it. Why is there no Sweet Home Carolina? Why isn’t there a Carolina Slammer? Well I take that back, there is now unofficially a Carolina Slammer and it is the creation of my best friend, Grace!
Since she is a bartender by trade I was happy to try the concoction she whipped up in the Thirsty Thursday kitchen this week. It’s a perfect for fall drink that is sure to be a hit with guests and yourself.
There’s a lot going on with this drink that makes it so special. There is a little fizz, a little sweet and a tiny kick – everything I want from my 21+ beverages. The king of the party (pun intended) here is Crown Royal XO (we received this for review – that didn’t affect our opinions). The smooth, ultra-premium blended Canadian whisky is the perfect base to a deliciously wonderful drink.
Crown Royal XO Tasting Notes:
Nose: Oak, vanilla, dried cherries
Taste: An elegant whisky deliciously balanced with hints of vanilla, spice and rich dried fruit closing with an impeccably smooth finish
How to Make a Carolina Slammer
So let’s get into how to make this homage to my new state, the Carolina Slammer. It’s actually a simple process since there is no layering. We’re just going to add the following ingredients to a shaker or large glass.
- 5 ounces Crown Royal XO
- 1 1/2 ounces Hazelnut liqueur
- 3 ounces Cranberry juice
- 4 ounces Red Bull
- 1 1/2 ounces Sprite
- 1 ounces Grenadine
Shake or stir the drink well, with ice. Split between 2 8 ounce glasses or strain into shot glasses.
