Independence. What does that word mean to you?

For me independence means not having to rely on others to get things done. In my last relationship independent wasn’t a word that described me. It was quite the opposite. I relied on him for nearly everything and that’s how he wanted it to be. Making my own decisions wasn’t an option and forget about going anywhere by myself. His car, his rules.

And then I found Phoebe.

It wasn’t too long after the break-up that I started reclaiming my independence. The very first thing was to stop relying on others to get me from point A to point B. That meant finding a reliable (yet affordable) vehicle. I found Phoebe in the lot of a going-out-of business dealership. She was 5 years old, had 45k miles, and was within my budget. She was the start of my independence.

In the past couple years Phoebe and I have grown quite close. We go everywhere together (unless I’m flying, taking a train, or walking) and you wouldn’t believe the stories she tells. Okay, so that last part is made up, but she really is like a best friend. It’s because we have that relationship that I’m determined to give Mrs. Phoebe Cruz the best possible care.

Special Things I Do For My Car

We go to the beauty parlor (aka The Carwash) once a week for the deluxe treatment: wash, wax, vacuum, and polish. A lady should always look her finest after all. Phoebe Makeover

We take family up on their offer to do a makeover, like when Phoebe got a new look for her front end.

We keep our appointments with the doc (aka The Mechanic) for regular oil changes and maintenance. When it’s time for an oil change, like it was this week, we head out to Walmart. I can get my shopping done knowing my car’s in great hands.

Since Phoebe is basically family I only want the best for her. According to my brothers the best oil for her is Quaker State Advanced Durability Motor Oil. They tell me to “just look for the green bottle” so that’s what I do!

It just so happens that Walmart has the Pit Crew Quaker State Oil special going on where you can get an oil change for $19.88!

Phoebe Cruz is the reason I feel like an independent woman. Because of her I don’t have to rely on others or put my wants on hold. It’s liberating and freeing and I don’t even want to imagine a day without her!

I’ve told you about my car, now tell me about yours! Have you named it or do you have a special bond?
