“Is your blood pressure high?”
“Have you been running/working out?”
“Why is your face so red??!”
These are all questions I get on a regular basis. The truth is my blood pressure is good, if not a little low. I rarely run, and give up on a workout before I break a sweat. My face is so red because I have rosacea.
I got the Dx when I was 12, so I’ve been living with severe rosacea for a pretty long time. My face is always red, to varying degrees. For me, a rosacea flare-up brings on bumps and pustules that leave me heartbroken and ashamed. Not to mention the painful irritation that feels like a horrible sunburn. When you live with a condition that physically changes your appearance it takes its toll on you.
For years, I’ve used layer upon layer of concealer and foundation to try to hide the symptoms of my rosacea. I experiment with new brands, trying to find the ones that won’t worsen my condition or break me out. That’s not as easy as it sounds! What I really need is a product that treats the symptoms, not hides them.
Prosacea® Medicated Rosacea Gel is a dermatologist recommended, homeopathic formula designed to treat the symptoms of rosacea. It is used to heal rosacea instead of concealing it, which is what we all (rosacea sufferers) wish for! Prosacea Medicated Rosacea Gel is meant to control redness, bumps, and irritation associated with rosacea, and uses sulfur as the active ingredient. The light, water-based formulation goes on easily, absorbs quickly, and provides a flawless finish under makeup. Aloe also helps soothe dry, reddened skin
Prosacea is the #1 over-the-counter rosacea treatment and has a 90% satisfaction rate from its users. I started out with one application, it is recommended to use it between 1 and 3 times a day. I noticed slight fading after the first use so I decided to try a twice daily application. Unfortunately, I discovered I have a mild sulfur sensitivity and twice daily was a bit too much for me. My dermatologist suggested only using it once, every other day which is what I plan to do. I’m hoping to see some major results as my dermatologist has nothing but good things to say about it!

Rosacea is a frustrating condition. I do everything I can to hide it, which can leave my skin worse for the wear. Layers upon layers of makeup go on daily to conceal the redness underneath. I just want the redness to go away for good but that’s unlikely. I have found a product that seems to be working to at least reduce the redness.
I received a jar of Lady Soma’s Somaluxe Redness Repair for review and have been using it almost religiously for the past couple of weeks. There have been a few days where I’ve forgotten it but for the most part I use it nightly.
The Lady Soma’s Somaluxe Redness Repair claim:
Calming treatment for sensitive skin that enhances the complexion and adds gentle moisture. Formulated with calming botanicals to soothe skin and relieve visible redness. Aloe vera, witch hazel and rosehip seed oil hydrate delicate, sensitive skin without causing irritation. Can be used to ease skin concerns caused by rosacea, sunburn, skin treatments or allergies.[/pullquote]
Moisture and redness reduction are the two things my face needs the most so I was eager to see how it worked for me.
While I didn’t notice a drastic difference in the redness I am noticing less of it. My cheeks are the worst spot for redness and that seems to be fading to an extent. I hate to use this word but they seem more splotchy now as opposed to before being saturated with redness. I’m not using splotchy as a negative here, just to convey that there are normal skin tones mixed in with the redness now.
I’m hoping with continued regular use I’ll notice even more of a difference. And who knows, maybe I’ll finally get the redness under control! I know the dryness is gone and that’s a biggie! From the moment I put the cream on my face, I feel my skin drinking it up. It feels amazing and my skin looks so healthy after using it. It adds a healthy glow without looking oily or gross.
The only downside I have had so far is a couple breakouts. I can’t be sure if they are coming from the cream or just natural occurrences, though. I’m leaning more towards natural as my skin looks better than ever after using the cream. I have used it instead of my regular primer when putting on makeup and it works great. It adds the right amount of moisture to keep my foundation from looking caked on and flaky.
Lady Soma also offers many other skin-pampering products. Be sure to check out their other products including the Raspberry Red Lip Gloss which is gorgeous and yummy! You can connect with Lady Soma on:

I almost feel like it’s taboo to discuss how to get rid of acne as an adult. There are so many commercials and ads directed at teens that you rarely hear about how to get rid of acne in adulthood. Thankfully I found a solution that works wonders for me, well into adulthood!
When I was younger (around 11) I started having mild breakouts. This eventually progressed to more aggressive breakouts that led to years of dermatologist visits. Everyone said the same thing:
“You’ll grow out of it!”
Instead of growing out of it I entered adulthood with acne and in my early 20’s topped that off with rosacea. Because of the rosacea my skin was extra sensitive; prone to breaking out after using most facial products.
As if having a constantly red, blotchy face isn’t enough throw in random pimples and blackheads. Not a pimple here and there, but a face full of monstrous zits. It is frustrating, disheartening and downright sad. Being able to find a solution that works to treat both afflictions is a miracle, at least in my eyes, and that’s what I found with the Clear Proof Acne System.
Real results for real problems.
There are a few things that set the Clear Proof Acne System apart from other solutions I’ve tried. Primarily the use of both salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide. Usually it’s one or the other, but Mary Kay approaches with both. Salicylic acid exfoliates dead skin while benzoyl peroxide reduces bacteria. Together, these ingredients visibly reduce the number of acne blemishes, their severity, and prevent new pimples from forming.
The line has 4 separate products designed to fight and prevent acne. Each has its own specific role in how to get rid of acne.
- The Clarifying Cleansing Gel gives the skin a deep clean, removing dirt, excess oil and impurities. The salicylic acid formula helps to reduce the shine and unclog pores to help achieve clearer skin.
- The Blemish Control Toner removes dead skin cells to help keep pores from clogging and prevent new pimples from forming. The salicylic acid-based formula cleanses skin completely to help tighten pores and appear less noticeable to give you healthy, clearer skin.
- The Acne Treatment Gel penetrates and clears pores to target bacteria and visible reduce a pimples redness. The benzoyl peroxide product absorbs bacteria quickly to help reduce the number of pimples, and allows the skin to heal and prevent future breakouts.
- The Oil Free Moisturizer is a fast- absorbing, lightweight, non-pore-clogging formula that helps provide your skinniest the balanced hydration it needs. The formula helps control shine and excess oil to leave skin feeling nourished and healthier.
The Clear Proof System from Mary Kay is available for $45.00 and individual products range from $10 to $17. This is significantly less than many of the other acne treatment systems I’ve tried that didn’t actually work.
I’ve been using the Mary Kay Clear Proof Acne System for several weeks so I can honestly say it works. It may not be immediate, but after a week of continuous use I was noticing a major reduction in both pimples and redness! I’m also loving the fact that there is no burning or stinging when using any of the products in the line. Something that’s caused me to stop using other systems.
If you’re struggling with how to get rid of acne then I’d love for you to try the Mary Kay Clear Proof Acne System. It works for me and while everyone is different, I think it will work for you too!
