5 Stress Relief Tips To Stay {Semi} Sane

Life lately has been interesting, to say the least. I found out last month that March would be my last month in this apartment. I’ve struggled with the choices in front of me. I have to decide whether I want to continue to live in North Carolina, move somewhere new, or move back home to Virginia. The good thing is I am single and living alone so the decision is solely mine. That’s also the downside. Looking back at the past decade or so it seems I have always had someone else making or at least helping to make major decisions. Even moving to North Carolina was someone else making a decision for me. Now it’s all on me, should I stay or should I go?

I’m highly tempted to sell the bulk of what I own and spend a year or so travelling around the country. It sounds fun in theory and I know plenty of others have done it, but is that really for me?!

The amount of stress that comes from making this major life decision can get overwhelming. Especially when you tack it on to the pre-existing stress of bills, dating, work, and the situations I get myself into. I’m starting to wonder how I still have hair in my head (there are days I feel like tearing it all out!) It’s when the stress really starts to kick my butt that I go in to stress relief mode. I’ve gathered some helpful tips and resources over my years and it turns out I have a pretty good arsenal for relieving stress.

1: Always have pen and paper on hand. Writing has always been an outlet for stress relief to me. Whether it’s scribbling down my overwhelming thoughts or the menagerie of ideas floating around in my head, writing/journaling is a huge help.

2: Always have something to squeeze, twist, and/or throw. My bestie Grace is always making stress balls and boy do they come in handy! She uses plain ol’ flour and a balloon to make them and creates them with varying degrees of tension. The more flour you add the more tense the ball is. Try it, it’s amazing!

3: Always have a natural, homeopathic remedy on hand. A few years ago I was introduced to RESCUE Pearls and they have been a permanent fixture in my purse ever since. RESCUE Pearls are developed by a doctor to be gentle and safe. Even better they are non-habit-forming and have no side effects.

4: Always remember to breathe. It’s amazing how just a few deep breathing exercises can lift the weight of stress. When you are feeling especially stressed try taking 10 deep breaths, breathing in and exhaling slowly. Sometimes all it takes is to step outside and breathe in some fresh air.

5: Always have a good friend on hand. I have a Grace. She is the best and is always there when I need to vent, scream, or cry – or a combination of everything. Having a friend like that is imperative to your sanity – trust me! Sometimes all it takes is a rational voice to reassure you everything will be okay and that you are in fact not losing your mind.

These are the key tips I use to take those stressful days and turn them into manageable moments. What do you do to relieve stress? RESCUE offers a great line of products to help you stress less, stay calm and in control. Products like
