Have you ever tried to touch-up or even apply makeup in a moving vehicle? If you are a commuter who hates the alarm then chances are high you have. Putting on makeup in a moving vehicle can be difficult and sometimes painful. Poking yourself in the eye with a mascara wand should be avoided at all costs!
There have been many times where I’ve had to do this on a ride to an event, reservation, or other places. I swear cab drivers get a kick out of it, especially during those slam on the brakes moments. Let’s not even talk about subway makeup mishaps!
You know, the iconic lipstick smeared across the cheek moment.
So, how do you apply makeup in a moving vehicle without looking like a circus clown or poking out an eyeball? Here are some pointers.
Do what you can at home. If you have time for for applying your foundation before you have to bolt out the door, do it. The lighting will be better letting you blend more effectively and you reduce the likelihood of spillage.
Have a makeup bag just for travelling. Aim for products that have built in mirrors and/or lights. This will lighten up your travel load and save you from having to juggle multiple things.
Find something to steady your hand with. This could be a door, the back of a seat, or your lap. Moving vehicles have a tendency to hit bumps. Bumps lead to smudges, smears, pokes, and possibly worse. This is vital when applying lip liner, lipstick, eyeliner, and mascara.
Take advantage of stops and transfers. Try to save the application of anything potentially dangerous (read: mascara and eyeliner) for stoplights, pick-ups, and transfers. This could possibly save your cornea.
