Control Pests with these Natural, Non-Violent Remedies

White Vinegar

When you’re entertaining outdoors white vinegar is your best friend. Fill a spray bottle or wet a towel with undiluted white vinegar and wipe down your surfaces. Bugs won’t dare cross thus keeping you and your guests pest free.

Essential Oils

Many essential oils work miracles against pests. Peppermint oil will keep mice away, just dip a cotton ball into the oil and place near any nooks and crannies that could be entry points. Citronella works incredibly well for keeping outside bugs (gnats, mosquitoes, flies etc.. away.)

Dump the Water

Mosquito’s lay their eggs on water, so making sure any receptacle that could collect water is empty will keep them from hatching near you.

Jam & Jelly

If you have flowers then you most likely have bees buzzing around too. Keep a dish of jam or jelly in a specific area away from where you and/or your family will be.

Citrus Peels

Instead of tossing your lemon, lime, and orange peels, consider keeping them. They are great for keeping bugs away. Wipe down surfaces and yourself with the citrus peels and bugs will not come near you.

Cinnamon Sticks

Use cinnamon sticks in areas where you’ve seen ants. They’ll crawl away from them and leave your home in peace. You can also use cloves and peeled garlic to do the trick.

I love the smell of mint and when planted around the house it will keep ants from entering.

These are some of my favorite ways to keep pests away, what are yours?

Crash Course for Easy Holiday Prep

Crash Course for Easy Holiday Prep

Is that sleigh bells I hear, or is it uncle Ted’s muffler? Whatever it is the holidays are here! Are you ready for the influx of family, friends, and co-workers? In case you’re not, here is the crash course for easy holiday prep.

Always have paper towels on hand. When you combine cooking, baking, clean-up, and sugared up kids, things are going to get messy. It’s the inevitable truth and the sooner you come to grips with this fact the sooner you can begin enjoying the holidays. Viva Paper Towels are the only paper towels I buy anymore. They have a more cloth like feel than your typical paper towel, and hold up much better too.

Viva Paper Towels make cleaning up a breeze and since they hold up so well you use less. Use them to serve snacks on, fold them into festive designs, use them to drain food. Paper towels are a vital part of surviving the holidays!

Remember the Kleenex. Kleenex has uses far beyond runny noses. The holidays can be a very emotional time for some. Emotional times usually involve tears. When kids are around you can almost guarantee there will be tears (theirs or ours or both).

Do you see where I’m going with this?

Not only is Kleenex great for catching mascara runs, the festive packaging will only add to your holiday decor. I love how the Kleenex® Perfect Fit increases the festivity of the room without taking up a ton of table space. Kleenex1

Stock up on toilet paper. When you have guests over it is safe to assume they will need to use the bathroom at least once during their visit. The odds increase when guests are staying the night. Don’t disappoint them or send them on a wild goose chase. Instead, stock up on some septic-safe TP like Scott® or Cottonelle®.

I like to leave several rolls sitting on the back of the tank. A cute basket it the perfect way to keep them on hand in an elegant fashion. This can also cut back on the guest snooping – they have no excuses to open your medicine cabinet.

Pro Tip: Take anything embarrassing, illegal, or valuable out of your medicine cabinet! Just because people don’t have a reason to snoop doesn’t mean they won’t.

Bringing Life to a Drab Room with MyWonderfulWalls.com

Sometimes all it takes to reduce the stress in your life is to add a bit of color. Seriously! Looking at the same drab walls in your home can be so depressing. So boring and vague. Change can be a positive influence on your stress levels and MyWonderfulWalls.com has the solution.

I am a sucker for flowers. I have a friend that brings me a bouquet regularly and they do so much for my mood.

Imagine what having a garden of sunflowers in my living room does!

Since I’m a renter now I’m limited to the changes I can make to my home. Remodeling is out of the question and painting is eh at best. That’s why I love MyWonderfulWalls.com and their easy to apply wall decals. Now I have a beautiful, whimsical garden in full bloom right in my living room. I can’t tell you how much this has brightened up the room and my mood. When you walk in the first thing everyone notices is the sunflowers. They look like they were painted on and pop off of the wall.

Applying them was a lot easier than I expected. The directions were clear: clean the walls, allow them to dry then carefully peel and stick the decals where you want them. I love having freedom and wiggle room when it comes to decorating and that’s exactly what I got.

The 3 huge sunflowers along with the 2 bumble bees can be rearranged and/or relocated whenever. The decals don’t leave behind any residue or indication there was anything there. Perfect for anyone who is renting or not a fan of commitment.

This was the room before

Plain, boring and leaving a lot to be desired. Now I have a lively living room that gets tons of comments. The first thing everyone asks is: “Did you paint that yourself?” No one believes they’re wall decals so I have to peel them back to show them. They’re equally amazed that it doesn’t peel off the paint or leave behind any nasty residue.

I proudly tell everyone that I got these wall decals from My Wonderful Walls. They’re meant to go in a kids room, but I’m a kid at heart 🙂 What do you think? Do you have a room that could benefit from some art from MyWonderfulWalls.com?
