Grilled Stuffed Peppers

When you think of fall what is the first thing that comes to mind? Is it the brisk evenings under the falling leaves? Maybe the unveiling of new pumpkin spice creations. If you’re like me then fall signifies something even better – the start of football season!

By the end of August we are all riled up here, with pre-season games and anticipating the first kickoff of the season. Our tailgating and homegating adventures are memorable… and loud… to say the least. Everyone cheers for different teams and team spirit carries in the air! There is a lot of competition on and off the field.

While we may each have different teams to root for there is one thing we all agree on: food makes everything fun! Even those outsiders who don’t care for sports (gasp!) join us for the festivities and food. Since my teams first kickoff of the season is next week I wanted to create a special tailgating treat. I went to Walmart to get the ingredients for some spicy Grilled Stuffed Peppers. El Yucateco is my go to hot sauce so I picked up a couple of bottles that were just right for my recipe.

Everyone who we tailgate and/or homegate with is big on flavor. Heat is a must when it comes to food so I decided to use two different hot sauces in this recipe. I use green Habanero hot sauce for the added kick and red Habanero hot sauce because, well, it goes with everything! El Yucateco Hot Sauce has much less vinegar than other hot sauces so I know whatever I use it in is going to come out great.

El Yucatecao Hot Sauce

To start, I cut the tops off of my peppers and cleaned the inside of veins and seeds.

I gathered my herbs, spices and other ingredients.

Then I mixed them all together. I added a tablespoon of each hot sauce. I didn’t want to go overboard since they would be available for added kick as needed (per preference). The little bottles make great table companions!

Grilled Stuffed Peppers Mixture

I stuffed the mixture into the hollowed out peppers and put them on my prepared (charcoal) grill. It’s important to note I used indirect heat by putting them on the veggie rack over the main rack.

My personal preference (when using ground beef) is to lay the peppers on their sides so any grease can easily escape.

Cook the peppers for 35 minutes (covered) and let them stand for about 5 minutes before serving. Easy, delicious, and perfect for any tailgating or homegating adventure!

Beer Glazed Broccoli

Beer Glazed Broccoli

Beer Glazed BroccoliThis time of year everyone is talking about the meats they’re grilling. But what about the veggies?! Yes, meat is all kinds of awesome but a complete meal it does not make. Throw some greenery on the grill and now we’re talking.

That’s what we did when we were tasked with trying the Vegetable Griller from Wilton Armetale. We used it to make the best broccoli ever. That’s coming from a man and it’s thanks to the not so secret ingredient. I’m going to make you guess what the special ingredient is. Here’s a hint:

Most men enjoy it and it isn’t bacon (or sex… or cheese)

Okay, fine. I’ll just tell ya cause we know how hard it is to figure men out. The secret ingredient is beer. Now you get it! We were just sitting on the deck grilling the broccoli with butter, salt and pepper and thought “Hmmm… I wonder what it would be like with beer.”

We poured about 1/4 of a bottle onto the Wilton Armetale Vegetable Griller and my goodness! It caramelized so prettily and the florets soaked up the flavor like a sponge soaks up water. For the complete recipe, see below.

This was definitely the best broccoli I’ve ever eaten, let alone made. It was so flavorful and so simple. The Wilton Armetale Vegetable Griller played a big part too. It helped make sure the beer had a place to sit while the veggies absorbed the liquid. It also gave us nice, even cooking instead of some being raw while the others were burning.

I’ve had that happen a lot over my years playing grill master.

I also used the Wilton Armetale Vegetable Griller to make some yummy Pico de Gallo Chicken Wings! They came out incredibly good too, so did the grilled Pico de Gallo. So much flavor!

I’m always happy to try out new items. I’m even happier when those items leave me speechless and/or in awe. That’s exactly what came from the Wilton Armetale Vegetable Griller. Not only does it look so darn cute, but it’s made with quality in mind. I’ve dropped it a few times and it hasn’t broke, chipped or cracked at all. The only downside is it isn’t dishwasher safe, but I coat it with cooking spray before I use it so clean up is super quick and effortless.

  • 1 pound of broccoli, cleaned and cut up
  • 4 tablespoons of butter, cut into cubes
  • 1/2 bottle of beer
  • Salt & Pepper to taste

Heat your grill and place broccoli in a pan for grilling. Use the Wilton Armetale Vegetable Griller for great results!

Place the pan on the grill and top the broccoli with the butter, salt and pepper. Cover and grill for 15 minutes.

Carefully remove the grill cover and pour beer over the broccoli, try to distribute it evenly.

Recover the veggies and cook for an additional 15 minutes. Use tongs to flip the broccoli, return cover and heat for another 5 - 10 minutes or until the broccoli is at the desired doneness.

Something else that is awesome about the Wilton Armetale Vegetable Griller is its versatility. Take it from the freezer to oven to tabletop to fridge to grill… It goes everywhere (except the dish washer!) The price tag is something else I’m loving. You can get this veggie griller for under $40 – which is a bargain when you consider the quality and craftsmanship behind it.

Amana Meat Shop & Smokehouse Review

UntitledWhat do you think of when you think summer? The first thing that pops into my mind is grilling on the deck and entertaining friends. For me it doesn’t get much better than that; until it does. Recently I had the chance to share some incredible steaks with a few friends during a cookout. The meats came from Amana Meat Shop & Smokehouse and were absolutely incredible.

Amana Meat Shop & Smokehouse Review (2)Filet Mignon, Strip Steak and Ribeyes were on the menu and everyone was excited to try them. They were even more excited to go in for seconds.

We made a basic marinade for the meats, a little Worcestershire with some salt & pepper. We put the steaks on the grill and cooked them to perfection – medium.

Amana Meat Shop & Smokehouse Review (1)

Each steak was full of flavor and so incredibly moist and tender. They were definitely the best steaks I’ve ever eaten.

It was like each cut was artistically carved with the perfect amount of marbling to make them so mouth-wateringly good.

Soooooo good!
Amana Meat Shop & Smokehouse Filet Mignon

One of my favorite things about the steaks from Amana Meat Shop & Smokehouse is there is no annoying gristle. You know how some steaks you’ll be eating then have to pause to spit out an inedible piece? There was none of that. No highly fatty pieces either. Just pure, meaty goodness.

Amana Meat Shop & Smokehouse Ribeye

There is absolutely nothing I can say negative about Amana Meat Shop & Smokehouse. Their meats live up to the highest of standards. Flavorful, wonderful textures, insanely moist and tender. Everything  you expect from a high quality steak.

Amana Meat Shop & Smokehouse Strip

We all savored each and every bite. If I had to choose a last meal it would be the Amana Meat Shop & Smokehouse Ribeye. It was my favorite cut, followed very closely by the tender, almost flaky filet mignon. The Strip Steak was a favorite among many of our guests as well.

Huge credit goes to my roommate, Tess, for playing grill master. And even more credit to Amana Meat Shop & Smokehouse for giving us something to look forward to when it comes to meats. I cannot wait to try the other goods available from Amana. They have definitely earned my trust and business. You should definitely check them out too! Amana Meat Shop & Smokehouse
