As much as I love moving from state to state, city to city, I hate the actual moving process. Mainly the packing part. This latest adventure is taking me to … drumroll, please … Marion, Iowa.
Anticlimactic, isn’t it?
You probably thought I was going somewhere awesome like New York, or Los Angeles. Instead, it’s someplace you have probably never heard of. That’s what makes this exciting for me; at least, that’s what I’m telling myself.
Our move in date is April 1st and I’m still gathering the packing supplies. I have less than 20 days to get the apartment packed up while still being able to live comfortably while we wait.
This means I spend most of my days sitting on the floor surrounded by unsurpassable mounds of knick-knacks, whatchamacallits, and whosawhatsis. Sorting through what goes and what stays. Forcibly reminding myself to label each box so when the toilet paper runs out we know where to get more.
With my time being devoted to packing and cleaning I don’t have a ton of time to do much else. That includes cooking. See, the way I figure it since it’s just the two of us we can survive the next few weeks on sandwiches and takeout. This way we don’t have to worry about a ton of dishes or wasting time in the kitchen.
In order to keep it at least somewhat healthy, I did pick up some whole grain bread from Walmart. Brownberry® Whole Grains 100% Whole Wheat Bread to be exact 🙂

I received product(s) in exchange for this post. Opinions are my own.
There are so many things that happen and come with winter. For me the main thing is getting sick; no matter how hard I try or how well-prepared I think I am, I find myself catching at least one cold at the start of the season. This year was no exception. Not long after the first snow I woke up with a sore throat. It was downhill from there and downhill is not where I want to be!
A sore throat isn’t the worst thing ever, but if you’ve had one you know how yucky it is. The natural act of swallowing becomes a nightmare and finding relief is the main agenda. It is a race to nip it in the bud before the sniffles, coughing, and sneezing start. This year I was ready for that race, armed with a secret weapon: Chai Tea.
Many spices found in Chai teas have medicinal/holistic uses great for combating sore throats and other ailments. Cinnamon and ginger both have antimicrobial properties while nutmeg, star anise, and cardamom play key roles too. Different Chai, different ingredients but the overall concept stays the same. Black tea with a blend of warm spices equals relief from winter turmoil.
Traditional Chai Tea isn’t for everyone. The spices can be a turn-off for someone with a sweet tooth but that doesn’t mean they can’t still enjoy it. In fact, TAZO® has a solution for that. TAZO® Chai Tea is available in several varieties including traditional, Vanilla Caramel, and chocolate. These varieties come in easy to use filter bags making that #SweetMeetsSpicy dream a reality. It gets even better with the TAZO® Chai tea concentrate (you must try the Vanilla Caramel – it’s incredible!

For anyone trying to lose or maintain their weight cravings are the enemy. They can come out of nowhere and wreak havoc. They are the cause of so many diets being tossed aside and I know exactly how that feels; not good.
Of all the diets I have tried the only ones I saw actual results from were those that limited carb intake. The problem with that is my biggest cravings are loaded with carbs: chips, breads, potatoes… the bad ones. When I received the Parmesan Crisps from Kitchen Table Bakers for review I was excited.
I was excited because there are <1 gram of carbs and 80 calories per serving (three crisps) which make them safe to eat! ParmCrisps are made with 100% Aged Parmesan Cheese, drool!
While three crisps might not sound like any serving you’ve had, ever, these are extremely satisfying. I’m usually good after just one crisp thanks to the robust, cheesy flavor. Because of this the crisps seem to last longer than any other snack I’ve had in the house. The resealable bag makes sure they’re kept fresh, yay!
The plastic container doesn’t seem to keep them fresh as long as the bag does, so I suggest using those up asap. Tea with friends, book club snack etc…
Aside from eating them on their own you can also use the ParmCrisps in place of those carb-overloaded croutons in your salad. They have the same familiar crunch without the guilt – score!
Did I mention they’re allergy friendly too, having no wheat or gluten or sugar. That’s pretty impressive.
There are 11 flavor varieties available so even the pickiest palates will be pleased. These would make a great stocking stuffer for the foodie in your life and can be easily found online and in select stores. Use the product locator to see if there’s a retailer nearby.
When I’m home alone I don’t usually cook an entire meal just for myself. I tend to stick to easy meals (like the ones you find in the freezer section) or sandwiches. Have you ever cooked a store-bought frozen meal, took a bite and instantly regretted it? It happens to me nearly every time I try one.
Sure they’re edible but I can’t necessarily call them good.
They look amazing on the box but I’m usually disappointed with the overall taste. Blake’s All Natural Foods is changing all of that with their made from scratch frozen meals.
When I was sent these made from scratch meals for review I didn’t have high expectations. I didn’t have many expectations at all besides hoping they were at least edible. Thankfully they exceeded that expectation by a mile. They were actually good which is saying something!
The first meal I tried was the Old Fashioned Mac & Cheese. My major disappointment here is my photography. I wish I had gotten a better shot of the Mac & Cheese itself instead of focusing so much on the box. The breadcrumb topping was a little lacking for me, but it was there. I had to add salt and pepper to the meal to meet my taste demands but I like that. There have been many times I’ve eaten something that was overly seasoned so being able to do that myself is a nice change.
The Macaroni and Beef meal was my favorite of the four I tried. The noodles were perfection and the rest was full of flavor and hearty goodness. I was actually surprised by how much flavor was packed into this meal; and by the chunks of gorgeous tomatoes. I did add a little Parmesan cheese to the top because, well, I’m a cheese lover :).
I haven’t gotten to try the Chicken Marsala with Pasta yet but the Lasagna Bake Bolognese was a nice surprise for me. It’s a huge dish to live up to and Blake’s did a good job on the delivery. The sauce was hearty and the noodles, once again, were perfection. I think it could have used a little more cheese but other than that I was very pleased.
Thanks to Blake’s All Natural Foods I haven’t given up on frozen foods completely. I just know to look for now when I’m shopping! Things like small batch and made from scratch on the label. That and the fact that Blake’s uses 90 – 100% organic ingredients are what make these meals worth eating. They can be made in the microwave or conventional oven which make them very easy and convenient for everyone. I prefer to cook them in the oven because I feel that yields the best results.
You can find Blake’s All Natural Foods products by using their store locator! If you can’t find a retailer nearby you can always shop online.
I’m a tuna fan. Well, I’m a tuna in a can fan. It’s so easy and convenient that not having it on hand isn’t an option. Tuna in a jar however was a completely new, didn’t see that coming concept.
Who puts tuna in a jar?!
Tonnino does! And they have a pretty good reason for doing so: It’s amazing!
I stepped outside of my comfort zone with this product review (product was provided for the purpose of this post) as I had no idea what to expect. All I could think of was sardines. Or anchovies. Both of which give me the heebie-jeebies by the way. I’m not overly fond of fish in general. I love seafood, just not fish.
Tuna happens to be one of the (maybe) four fish types I can eat and enjoy. I like tuna fish sandwiches (you know the canned stuff with mayo), tuna steak, and spicy tuna rolls. Sadly that was the extent of my tuna experience. I really didn’t think there was much else to do with it.
Can you think of more?
Apparently there are many, many creative ways to use tuna and you can find some scrumptious recipes on the Tonnino’s website.
Each 6.7 ounce Tonnino jar is hand packed with wild caught (dolphin-safe) yellowfin tuna. As you may know, yellowfin tuna is rich in Omega-3s with low mercury levels. It doesn’t stop there though – there are several varieties to choose from with varying flavors. Flavors like Jalapeno, Oregano, Lemon Pepper and Garlic.
The Tuna Ventresca seems to be the holy grail of Tonnino tuna having been hand filleted from a small section of the tuna’s underbelly. While most of the tuna is packed in oil, there is a spring water option.
If you have never had gourmet tuna then you are truly missing out. You can use these in salads, pasta dishes, or eat them on their own. They are incredibly fresh and the taste is out of this world phenomenal. I’m so happy to have been introduced and definitely plan on kicking the canned tuna out to make room for these!
