Crash Course for Easy Holiday Prep

Crash Course for Easy Holiday Prep

Is that sleigh bells I hear, or is it uncle Ted’s muffler? Whatever it is the holidays are here! Are you ready for the influx of family, friends, and co-workers? In case you’re not, here is the crash course for easy holiday prep.

Always have paper towels on hand. When you combine cooking, baking, clean-up, and sugared up kids, things are going to get messy. It’s the inevitable truth and the sooner you come to grips with this fact the sooner you can begin enjoying the holidays. Viva Paper Towels are the only paper towels I buy anymore. They have a more cloth like feel than your typical paper towel, and hold up much better too.

Viva Paper Towels make cleaning up a breeze and since they hold up so well you use less. Use them to serve snacks on, fold them into festive designs, use them to drain food. Paper towels are a vital part of surviving the holidays!

Remember the Kleenex. Kleenex has uses far beyond runny noses. The holidays can be a very emotional time for some. Emotional times usually involve tears. When kids are around you can almost guarantee there will be tears (theirs or ours or both).

Do you see where I’m going with this?

Not only is Kleenex great for catching mascara runs, the festive packaging will only add to your holiday decor. I love how the Kleenex® Perfect Fit increases the festivity of the room without taking up a ton of table space. Kleenex1

Stock up on toilet paper. When you have guests over it is safe to assume they will need to use the bathroom at least once during their visit. The odds increase when guests are staying the night. Don’t disappoint them or send them on a wild goose chase. Instead, stock up on some septic-safe TP like Scott® or Cottonelle®.

I like to leave several rolls sitting on the back of the tank. A cute basket it the perfect way to keep them on hand in an elegant fashion. This can also cut back on the guest snooping – they have no excuses to open your medicine cabinet.

Pro Tip: Take anything embarrassing, illegal, or valuable out of your medicine cabinet! Just because people don’t have a reason to snoop doesn’t mean they won’t.

Gearing Up for Game Day with King’s Hawaiian®

Gearing Up for Game Day with King’s Hawaiian®

This blog post was sponsored by KING’S HAWAIIAN® but the opinions are all my own.

Whether you are a die-hard sports fan yourself or you are the significant other of a die-hard sports fan then you no doubt understand how important game time is. You also understand when friends and family gather to watch the game it can be an all day affair. Preparing for game day can be as fun as it is hectic. Thankfully Walmart has everything you need to set the scene for an awesome game time bash.

Game Time Shopping at Walmart

I stopped by Walmart recently to gather a few game time necessities. You know, to feed and entertain the troops and all 🙂 Before I left I made a list of what I would need. I have to do this because, well, I’m always forgetting something if I don’t have a list. I managed to get everything I needed to make game time awesome and completely yummy.

Rock Game Day with King's Hawaiian

I have a few game time recipes I’m going to be sharing with you guys in the coming weeks so be on the lookout for those. In the meantime you can do like I did and shop for the basics. And don’t put that grill away just yet! Game time without a barbecue is just silly I say! In fact, most of what I have planned is going to be cooked on the grill. Juicy burgers, bacon wrapped dogs, the best corn on the cob ever, and so much more! It all centers around King’s Hawaiian buns, yum!

Game Time Shopping at Walmart

If you need help planning and shopping for your game time gathering then you’re in luck. I have the run down on the basic necessities as well as some added bonuses. Be sure to add King’s Hawaiian to your shopping list, they make (hands down) the best buns in the world. Check it out:

Game Time Basics:

  • Plates (paper plates cut back on dishes and there are several football themed options at Walmart. Alternatively you can choose some low-priced plastic or ceramic plates that can be used over and over – your choice.)
  • Cups (same concept as plates, be sure to get a variety of sizes.)
  • Forks, spoons, knives (we’re not savages, give us something to eat with! For this I highly suggest going the plastic/disposable route. I hate washing silverware.)
  • Table linens (or, in this case, plastics. Protect your surfaces with team or game inspired disposable tablecloths.)
  • Drinks (water, soda, beer, wine – you know your guests and having a variety for them to choose from is wise.)
  • Food (plan your menu well in advance so you can be sure to have everything required on hand. Chips and dip are usually universally accepted snacks.)
  • Buns (you’re gonna have some kind of burger, slider, or hot dogs, right? Of course you are! Be sure to have buns on hand – I highly suggest Kings Hawaiian since they are undoubtedly the best 🙂 )

Game Day Added Bonuses:

  • Napkins (some people don’t see these as a basic necessity. They are. Stock up on napkins and paper towels or be ready to see sauce smeared all over the furniture and/or carpet.)
  • Condiments (so often forgotten and always missed. Remember ketchup and mustard if nothing else!)
  • Footballs (what better way to get pumped up for the game than tossing around the ol’ pigskin? I swear, this is my first time {and probably last} saying that.)
  • Trash bags (that mess isn’t gonna clean itself up!)

These are my basics when shopping for game day. Can you think of anything I’ve left out? To get even more ideas be sure to check out the links below for some awesomeness Courtney Whitmore has for you!

Candle Making at Home with Natures Garden

Have you ever sat around with your girlfriends wondering what to do? Since I’ve gotten older I have been feeling a lot less fun and more drab. My friends have assured me this isn’t true but when it takes hours to come up with plans for a girls night in I feel off my game. This time around it didn’t take long at all to decide what we were going to do. At home candle making!

I have a major obsession with candles – I absolutely adore them. I had never actually made a candle myself, despite my love for them. That’s part of the reason I was so excited for some at home candle making action. It was also great to let each of my gal pals customize the colors and scents of their candles – and to let them take them home!

Candle making

Natures Garden Candles sent us everything we needed to make several candles:

  • Wax
  • Jars
  • Wicks
  • Color blocks
  • 4 Scents
  • Thermometer
  • and melting pot

The instructions that came with the kit were super easy to understand and follow which is huge for anyone new to candle making. We set up the melting pot and started melting the wax and whichever color wafer we wanted. We waited for the temperature to get just right to add the fragrance

We filled up the glasses, only partially for the multi-colored candles. For the multi-colored candles we let the first wax addition cool for a couple hours before adding new wax.

We waited for most of the recommended time before burning the candles, but once we did we were amazed. Not only do they burn perfectly slow but the scents were fantastic. I didn’t expect the fragrances to be so prominent yet they were. Not in a bad way, but in the way you can actually smell them and they smell good!

We had a lot of fun making candles at home; it was definitely something we’ll be doing more of. Not only was it fun but it gave us girls a chance to bond and connect more which is always a bonus. I see lots more candle making in our future and Natures Garden is bookmarked for future shopping.
