When I was younger I laughed when anyone said they had heartburn. It seemed like a ridiculous concept and just couldn’t wrap my head around it. Fast forward to my mid twenties and I finally understood what the big deal was.

Heartburn is the worst!

I got to the point where I couldn’t even look at spicy food without that familiar burning sensation coming over me. There have been a few times I seriously thought I was going to die because it hurt so bad. Between the heartburn and acid reflux I have had to drastically change what I eat. This means giving up on food I love, like anything spicy.

Sausage and peppers for one

When my gallbladder came out I assumed that was the end of my heartburn and had to test the theory. The first time I ate spicy food things were fine for the first hour afterwards. Then it hit me. The sour taste in the back of my throat and the burning sensation in my chest. My problems weren’t over and I was so sick of feasting on antacids. It was time for a change and I knew there had to be a simpler solution.

There is a simple solution for all day heartburn relief!

The solution I found that is working to stop my frequent heartburn is Nexium 24HR. It is one Purple Pill a day and I am back to enjoying the food I love without suffering. There is no more handfuls of antacids or sulking doe-eyed watching others enjoy things I can’t. It’s kind of like I’m that young kid again wondering why everyone isn’t living simpler with that amazing Purple Pill in their life.

Sausage & Peppers for One

In celebration of my new-found freedom from heartburn I decided to make one of my favorite simple meals. Sausage and Peppers is one of those dishes I used to hate to love. Sharwood’s Cooking Sauce Review

Sharwood’s Cooking Sauce Review

If you love Indian food but want to skip on the restaurants you have a few options. You can learn to make it yourself or you can take the easy road and pick up some of Sharwood’s Cooking Sauces.

Sharwood's Jalfrezi

Sharwood’s is a UK line of Indian foods that is available across the US. Their selection includes jarred Indian sauces, pastes and powder in a variety of flavors such as Butter Chicken, Tikka Masala, Jalfrezi, and Korma.

Their products range from mild to spicy and are guaranteed to please any palate.

I had the opportunity to try a couple of the sauces (sent for review purposes) and I’m so glad I did! I used half of the Jalfrezi jar to marinate some steaks then used the other half to cook the steaks with.

The taste was out of this world phenomenal and it couldn’t have been easier to do. There was no measuring or worrying about following a recipe. The sauce did all the work making it perfect for busy moms, wives, and everyone in between.

Sharwood’s even offers some gluten-free and vegan options.

What I truly love about these sauce is they aren’t just a runny, sloppy mess. They are full of veggies and that makes all the difference. While I’m not a fan of chunks in my sauces, the people I cook for are. They want the texture that comes with homemade sauces, not something that’s like pureed baby food. Sharwood’s definitely delivers on that big time.

The sauces are available in most major supermarkets. There are several varieties available for Chinese, Indian or Thai cuisines. Visit the Sharwood’s website for all of their products and nutritional information. I know I can’t wait to try more!

Which one do you think your family would enjoy the most?

Frieling Black Cube Fry Pan Review

Frieling Black Cube Fry Pan Review

I wish I had a dollar for every non-stick frying pan that has disappointed me. Between washing them the wrong way, using the wrong utensils, and overuse I have gone through more than a few. I love the concept but my luck with them really stinks.

My luck seems to be changing and I think I have met a non-stick frying pan that can stand up to my cooking habits. I received the 8″ Frieling Black Cube Fry Pan to review and I’m legit impressed.

Frieling Black Cube Fry Pan

Right out of the gate this pan has two things going for it:

  1. It is non-stick. Meaning food won’t be ruined and pulled apart and cleanup is a breeze.
  2. It is stainless steel. Meaning it’s going to last longer and not leave food tasting like a tin can. There is an aluminum layer sandwiched between the stainless steel. This helps improve heat transfer and deliverance of evenly cooked foods.

Then there are the other features that secure this pans spot in the kitchen.

Fry Pan Buckeye

  • Brown foods without sticking. I used to think that food wasn’t browning unless it was sticking to the bottom of the pan. I believed that it was part of the process, boy was I wrong!
  • 100% Scratch resistant. Frieling even suggests using metal utensils with their Black Cube frying pans! That’s one offer I won’t refuse! I’ve actively tried scratching the pan (bad Amber, I know) and it just isn’t happening.
  • Made for all cooktops. Yes, even induction cooktops, take this pan camping or anywhere else there’s a kitchen or open flame.
  • Ergonomically shaped handle. Forget carpal tunnel all you wrist flippers!
  • Combination coating. The honeycomb pattern of stainless steel dots is my favorite feature. Not only does it look cool, but it is a big part of why your food isn’t sticking.

I use this frying pan exclusively for any grilled cheese or toast and egg type of meal. It makes my buckeyes perfectly golden and well done. No burning, no sticking, no mess.

This is me approving!

Perfect Roast Beast with Outer Spice

One of my favorite holiday traditions is watching How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

“…he even stole the roast beast.”

And seriously, how could he not?! Roast Beast, or as you normal folk may better know it as: Roast Beef, is my favorite meat. It is so tender and succulent… the way it melts in your mouth and pairs with potatoes, carrots, and onions… Oh how I love it!download

Normally when I’m making a roast I have several bottles of seasonings scattered about. This year my holiday roast beast is made simpler – and yes better – with Outer Spice. Instead of five or six bottles of spices I only have one. That one bottle is full of organic spices that take any dish to wow. There is even a no salt option available for those with sodium restrictions. I’m a huge fan of Himalyan Salt and that is what Outer Spice uses. Score!

Outer Spice was founded in 2010 by Ben Stevens. They have four different varieties available:

and you can get them from the Outer Spice website. They also have some mouth-watering recipes you will want to have a look at when you are on their website. To get my super succulent roast beast you can find the recipe below. The secret is the slow roasting process – it truly is to die for! To learn more about Outer Spice be sure to connect with them on their social media channels.

Homemade Apple Cobbler

Homemade Apple Cobbler

I’ve been in a major funk lately. I don’t know what’s going on with me but I’m really not liking it. To try to snap myself out of it I went grocery shopping. I get some of my best ideas at the grocery store! I saw some Red Delicious apples and I started to perk up a bit. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with them but they spoke to me. “Amber, Amber…. take us home with  you.”Apple Cobbler

So I did.

They sat on the island for 2 days before I remembered them. By that time they had stopped speaking. Today I was cleaning up the kitchen and noticed them sitting there, still in the produce bag. I brought them into the living room, sat down and started to peel them. I still had no clue what I wanted to do with them so I’d eat a slice here and there, and shared with Alex. Alex was begging for the peels, only to drop them in front of the couch.Apple Cobbler

Silly puppy!

Well, I got done peeling them, and sliced ’em up nice and purty and still had no clue what to do with them. So I stared at them. “What am I going to do with you little babies?”
Apple Cobbler (2)Alex looked up at me and I swear we both had the same idea: Apple Cobbler. Homemade Apple Cobbler. This dog is just too smart for his own good! So that’s what I did. I whipped up this deliciously easy homemade apple cobbler and let me just say the funk is gone. I am in heaven, at least until the last slice is gone. Then I guess it’s back to the grocery store.

Love Homemade Apple Cobbler!

Apple Cobbler (4)

This is so easy to make and everyone loves it. The topping may seem a little weird but believe me, it’s great. Don’t worry about the naked spots, the apple juices will fill them in nicely. So anyway, here is my homemade apple cobbler recipe, I hope you love it!Apple Cobbler (5)
