I have been compensated by Glucerna for this post; however, I am sharing my own thoughts. All opinions are my own.Talk with your health care provider about a diabetes management plan that’s right for you. #GlucernaHungerSmart #CollectiveBias
Since I moved in with my BFF and her diabetic mom I have stopped buying the tempting, quick foods I used to. Now, I’m making the majority of meals and snacks from scratch, carefully choosing ingredients and how I prepare them. One of the hardest things about being diabetic is managing hunger in a way that won’t spike sugar levels but still leave you satisfied.
So, how do you manage daytime hunger as a diabetic?
For me, the best thing is to not give myself a chance to feel hungry. I try to stay as busy as possible without starving myself. Keeping something like Glucerna® Hunger Smart™ Shakes on hand has been very successful. I like to start my day with one and it definitely helps keep me feeling full throughout the day.
As with anything new, be sure to talk to your doctor about adding new things to your diet; use under medical supervision
Glucerna® Hunger Smart™ Shakes are packed with vitamins and minerals (25 of them) and just 6 grams of sugars and 1 carb choice per bottle. They are a great fiber source (staying regular is important too!) and come in vanilla and chocolate flavors. The most important part, though, is the way it keeps you from feeling hungry. With a whopping 15 grams of protein (to help manage hunger) and CARBSTEADY® (which includes slowly digestible carbohydrates designed to help minimize blood sugar spikes), I can kiss hunger good-bye!
I pick up Glucerna from the pharmacy area whenever I am in Walmart. I always have a couple on hand just in case hunger strikes while I am out.
Deal Alert: Buy any 2 large packs of Glucerna and get up to $3 off.
Hiking and nature, in general, captivates me so I don’t really have time to think “Hmm, am I hungry?” When hunger does hit I make sure I have a Glucerna® Hunger Smart™ Shake to satisfy that hunger. I really love that we don’t have to leave early or deal with that horrible feeling that comes with high or low blood sugar.
When we’re at home I like to make healthy snacking options like turkey bacon wrapped asparagus. They are easy to prepare and work great for midday hunger and cravings. I am working extra hard to manage my glucose levels since my doctor’s reprimand last week. I told her about my bacon fascination and she agrees that this is a great, healthy snack option.
