Homemade Cinnamon RollsRegardless of what your day was like, homemade cinnamon rolls can make it so much better. Whether you’re enjoying them for breakfast, dessert or a midday snack homemade cinnamon rolls are one of the best things in the world. Homemade Cinnamon Rolls are really easy to make and when you’re using the cinnamon sugar blend from Kaina’s Organics they’re even better. Yes that’s a shameless plug for them because, well, they are awesome!

PicMonkey-CollageThe biggest issue I’ve had when using this recipe is the dough can be kind of sticky. Adding a little extra flour helps and so does the grease from the bowl after the first rise. I use my Kitchen-Aid to do most of the work for me. You could knead the dough yourself if you don’t have one or prefer to do it the old fashioned way.

Homemade Cinnamon RollsThese homemade cinnamon rolls are big and flaky and tender and so full of flavor. Oh my goodness you just wont believe it until you try it! There’s no longer a need to buy the refrigerated version or worry about making them yourself. Your family will definitely appreciate the effort you put into these. And they never need to know how easy they are to make, unless you want to share the recipe of course.

  • Dough Ingredients:
  • 1 envelope rapid rise yeast (approx. 2 1/4 tsp)
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1 cup milk (I used 2%)
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • pinch salt
  • 1 egg
  • Cinnamon Sugar Filling Ingredients:
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 Tbsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1 stick butter, semi-melted
  • Glaze Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 C powdered sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. milk

Dissolve yeast in hot water and set aside.

Stir together milk and butter in a medium bowl then set aside.

Add flour, sugar and salt to the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the dough hook. Turn on low and slowly pour in yeast, milk and butter.

Allow the stand mixer to continue on low for 2 minutes then add egg. Turn speed to medium low and allow to mix for 5 minutes.

Scrape dough into a large bowl coated with oil. Cover with damp paper towels and set in a warm place to rise for 25 minutes.

Roll out on generously floured surface until 1/4 inch thick and about 14 - 15 inches long.

Brush with butter and combine all ingredients for cinnamon sugar filling and brush that over the butter.

Carefully roll up the dough as tight as you can without tearing it.

Cut the dough into even slices to form rolls. Place in greased baking dish and set aside to rise for 20 more minutes.

Bake the cinnamon rolls for 25 minutes at 350 degrees.

Carefully remove the cinnamon rolls from the oven and cool a little before icing.

For Icing

Combine all ingredients, adding powdered sugar as needed to reach the desired consistency. Swirl on top of the cinnamon buns.
