Nonna Box Review

Nonna Box Review

Spaghetti, lasagna,¬†mostaccioli. Are you suddenly craving pasta, or an impromptu trip to Italy?¬†Sure you may have the iconic Italian grandmother who passed on her authentic recipes, but what about the ingredients? What about those hard to find, sourced right from Italy ingredients? Well, that’s where Nonna Box comes in.

What is Nonna Box?

Nonna Box

Short answer: it is a subscription service for gourmet Italian food.

Nonna Box offers you the chance to get a real taste of Italia without a passport. Nonna Box is a monthly subscription box filled with foodstuffs from various regions of Italy. Each box has 6 full-size, premium and gourmet products. These aren’t products you’re going to find on the shelves of the local grocery store. Instead, they are carefully selected, traditional products that are used throughout the region and sourced from small Italian artisans.

I think it’s a bonus these are hard to come by products.

Nonna Box 4

The box also includes card inserts with regional food history and traditional recipes from real Nonna’s.

My Thoughts on Nonna Box

Nonna Box sent out a box for me to check out and get a feel for. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but for almost $70/month I knew it should be awesome. When the box arrived I eagerly unpacked the contents. The first thing I noticed was the absence of familiar brand names. That was a good sign since I’d rather support smaller businesses over the bigger ones; there’s always a noticeable difference in quality and mission statements.

Here’s what was inside my Nonna Box:

 Nonna Box

Artichoke Spread ‚Äď Considering Italy is the world’s largest producer of artichokes (fun fact of the day) it seems fitting that this is included in the box. The artichokes used in the spread are from Puglia and produced by De Carlo. De Carlo is one of Puglia’s oldest olive oil mills and dates back to the 1600s.

Sun Kissed Cherry Tomatoes ‚Äď Packaged tomatoes don’t get much fresher than these. They are organically grown and processed within 24 hours of harvest. The perfect combination of extra virgin olive oil, salt, and spices make these a delightful, right out of the jar treat.

Bella di Cerignola Olives ‚Äď ¬†First I’d like to mention that these olives carry the DOP status. This certification promises that the olives are locally grown and packaged. The olives are large, and meaty, and have a wonderfully fresh flavor.

Olive Oil Taralli ‚ÄstThese are a traditional Italian snack food dating back to the 1400s. Made with simple ingredients (olive oil, flour, wine, and fennel seeds) they are meant to be eaten like popcorn or chips.

Orecchiette di Farina Arsa ‚Äď These are hand-made (by Pugliese women) pasta shells made from flour, water and salt. They have the most amazing smoky flavor and a wonderful texture.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil ‚Äď I think EVOO is the cornerstone to most, if not all, Italian dishes. This bottle is made with olives from the terra di Bari region and also carries DOP status.

ePantry Subscription Service Review

ePantry Subscription Service Review

Have you ever been so busy that you spaced on the shopping list and forgot 1 or more things? I do it all of the time and by the time I realize it I don’t feel like going back to the store. This usually leads to at least one of the following:

  • Running out of conditioner (because the shampoo always lasts at least twice as long) and having blah hair.
  • Running out of dish detergent (because the dishwasher is busted) and having a sink full of dishes.
  • Running out of laundry detergent and having to re-wear last weeks jeans… twice.
  • Running out of hand soap/toilet paper and having guests show up unexpectedly… every darn time.

ePantry purchase

This post contains personal opinions and affiliate links. I received products in exchange for sharing my thoughts.

I could go on and on but I’m sure you get the point and can relate. When I found ePantry I realized my woes were about to disappear.

What is ePantry

ePantry is small company that offers a subscription service for natural cleaning supplies and personal care products. They offer products from well-known brands at¬†a discount from the list price. Brands include Method (my fave!), Acure Organics, Mrs. Meyers, Full Circle, Tom’s of Maine, Preserve, Seventh Generation, and more. They even have an in-house brand.

ePantry purchase

ePantry offers a VIP service ($39.99 per year) that gets you free shipping plus 4 free, full-sized products per year. The free products are valued at over $20 each so it more than makes up for the VIP subscription cost. VIP members also get access to the VIP-Only Support hotline which means super fast responses to your questions and concerns.

If the VIP membership doesn’t sound like something you want/need don’t worry – it’s not required to take advantage of the great discounts from ePantry. Non-VIP members pay a small ($2.99) shipping fee. You can also manage your subscriptions to make sure you only get what you need when you need it. You can even cancel recurring subscriptions if needed and ePantry sends reminder emails so you won’t get any surprise charges.

The ePantry website is easy to navigate and the selection of products is incredible. You can shop by category or by brand. If you know what you want you can use the built-in search function to find it. It really couldn’t be easier to ePantry. With a service this great you can be sure you won’t run out of the essentials ever again!

Because I know you’re going to love shopping with ePantry I want to share this deal. Start shopping through this link and get $10 towards your first shipment!

Blue Apron Subscription Box Review

Have you ever wanted to make a gourmet meal but found yourself less than inspired? Maybe it’s the tedious work that goes into it or maybe you can’t find those specialty ingredients. Either way I’m going to tell you about this awesomesauce company, Blue Apron, that makes it not only possible, but fun too!

First a little back story:

Blue Apron sends everything you need to create 3 luxurious meals. The meats, the produce and the little bits and pieces to tie it all together. All shipped to your home in the freshest state possible! So awesome.

Blue Apron Subscription Box Review

The first dish I made was the Seared Pork Medallions with Rhubarb Chutney and Sauteed Freekeh. I had never worked with Rhubarb or Freekeh and I’m not a fan of asparagus. With that said, the dish came out¬†incredible.¬†My roommate and I couldn’t believe how delicious this meal was. The Rhubarb Chutney was a bit intimidating for both of us. We had never had anything with rhubarb and it wasn’t very attractive; but oh my goodness… it was yum. It pulled the entire dish¬†together. Incredible!!

Seared Pork Medallions with Rhubarb Chutney and Sauteed Freekeh The freekeh was very interesting, and I really enjoyed the texture. The only issue I had with this dish was I forgot the thyme; I tend to get ahead of myself when I’m cooking. Kind of like people that have a tons of screws left over after putting something together.

I’ll preface what I’m about to say with I don’t like fish. Can’t stand the stuff normally. Because of that I was extremely hesitant to make the Maple & Ginger Glazed Salmon with Watercress & Parsnip Salad. You can not imagine how happy I am that I made this. Of the 3 meals this was my absolute favorite. Not so much for the salad, but the salmon was out of this world good.

Maple & Ginger Glazed Salmon with Watercress & Parsnip Salad. - See more at: http://simpleblife.wpengine.com/subscription-box-review-blue-apron/#sthash.Chr3oU6C.dpuf

There was no fishy taste which was the first bonus. The maple and ginger flavor blew me away. Like I want to eat this every night for the rest of my life.

Lemon-Parsley Chicken Thighs with Squash & Zucchini Salad and Red Quinoa

The¬†Lemon-Parsley Chicken Thighs¬†with Squash & Zucchini Salad and Red Quinoa was probably my least favorite. I’m not a fan of dark meat so chicken thighs fall to the bottom of my foods I love list. The zucchini salad, however, was really good. I somehow managed to burn the quinoa too. Not sure what I was thinking that night! My roommate did enjoy this dish so it’s all a matter of personal preference.

My roommate and I are both in love with Blue Apron. The directions are so simple to follow from start to finish. If you enjoy cooking with fresh ingredients then you will definitely love Blue Apron as well. Even if you’re a beginner in the kitchen you can’t go wrong. One thing I absolutely love is there is no “waiting” while you’re cooking. The directions keep you busy the entire time (which is why I can’t figure out how I burnt the quinoa!)

I think Blue Apron would be perfect for anyone in newer relationships. Show off  your skills in the kitchen even if you have none! You really have to check out Blue Apron.

Sapphire Soul Subscription Box Review:

I’ve always had a¬†thing¬†for the¬†metaphysical. I’m not sure what to call this¬†thing¬†but I’ve always been fascinated with all things¬†metaphysical, New Age and the nature of being in general.

From crystals to tarot and everything in between.

When I found the Sapphire Soul website I was captivated. Their website says these subscription boxes are meant to¬†take care of your body and open your soul. I couldn’t wait to see what was in these boxes. When I received mine I was thrilled to open it and check it out.

Inside the Sapphire Soul Box

Sapphire Soul Box

Lavender Tranquility Eye Pillow¬†‚Äď Sleep is essential to everything in life. This lavender-infused eye pillow is designed (in the USA) to make falling asleep more relaxing. You can use it warm or cool and use it to relieve stress, ease migraines, or to relax after a hectic day. Contents include lavender and organic flax seed.

Heart Chakra Candle¬†‚Äď The candle I received had such a relaxing scent. It was a Heart Chakra representative and included rose and geranium essential oils. I’m a huge candle fan so I was thrilled to find this in the Sapphire Soul Box.

Malachite Crystal¬†–¬†Malachite is such a gorgeous stone, but did you know it has metaphysical properties as well?¬†¬†It absorbs negative energies and pollutants, picking them up from the atmosphere and from the body. It also helps to lift depression and heal emotional wounds. With the amount of stress I’ve been under in the last few months this was the perfect stone for me.

Heart Chakra Essential Oil Spray¬†‚Äď Tons of Heart Chakra going on in this box! It’s like the universe is trying to tell me something ūüėČ I really enjoyed this essential oil spray. It is a blend of jasmine, rose, and blood orange essential oils.¬†It’s all natural and I’ve been using it to¬†balance¬†every room in my home! It’s such a relaxing yet invigorating fragrance.Sapphire Soul Box (1)

Stash Chanakara Tea¬†‚Äď This is a unique tea to say the least. It has subtle hints of melon which isn’t something I’m used to. The green tea flavor is robust though, so they balance each other out well. I’m not crazy about it but I don’t hate it either. If you’re a tea aficionado I think you would enjoy this.

Paper Magician Magic Tree¬†‚Äď This was¬†my favorite item in the box. Not only is it super cool, but there’s something about it that just captivates me. Maybe it’s my extreme love for plants, but to watch this¬†bloom¬†was incredible. In 60 minutes I started to see little¬†blossoms¬†and by the next day we had an adorable tree. Definitely something I’ll be keeping around for a while.

I’m incredibly thrilled with the Sapphire Soul box. I was introduced to new items, and new information. Everything in the box¬†speaks¬†to me, which I love. You¬†have¬†to get one (or 3!) for yourself to see how incredible it is. Especially if you have a love/appreciation for the metaphysical. Even if you don’t there are plenty of things inside to make you smile.

There are multiple boxes from Sapphire Soul to choose from, each offering something special.

Subscription Box Review: April Splendies Box

Alright ladies, let’s talk panties. For me, when it comes to underwear, it’s a love/hate relationship. I love the cute designs, the sex appeal and the modesty but I hate shopping for them. Yes, I’m a little self conscious and don’t dare go into Victoria Secret’s or similar stores. I just always feel like people are staring. So, I tend to stick to the basics. That makes for a pretty dull undercover wardrobe and frankly I was sick of it.

Then I found Splendies.

Splendies is a monthly subscription service specializing in (drum roll please….) panties! They deliver 3 pairs of quality panties to your door each month. And we’re not talking granny panties here ladies. We’re talking cute, make you feel sexy in your own skin panties. And come on, who couldn’t use those?! What I¬†love¬†most about Splendies is they come in my size¬†and¬†they’re cute! I guess that takes me back to my embarrassment. Shopping for sexy undies isn’t something I’m comfortable with in public. I feel like everyone is staring and you can call me paranoid because, well, I guess I am a little.Splendies

They¬†offers their surprise panties in¬†regular¬†as well as plus sizes from their sister company, Volupties – up to a 3XL. With Splendies you never know what you’re going to get in your package. Styles range from boy shorts to thongs and everything in between. If thongs aren’t your thing though you can opt out of receiving those for $2! They¬†want to make sure you’re happy.Splendies

When ordering your subscription it’s advised to go up a size. I’m assuming this is for vanity sizing issues since the panties are brand names. You can also save some $$ off your first month by using the promo code “MUSTHAVE” at checkout. This will save you $4.00 off your Splendies subscription and $5.00 off your Volupties subscription.

I’m thrilled with the panties I received and can’t wait to see what other selections are available. It’s so fun being introduced to new brands and new styles.
