Everyone seems to be going crazy with anticipation for the 50 Shades of Grey premier. I’ll confess right now that I have never read the 50 Shades series. I’ve never wanted to and I probably never will. I will admit when I saw rumors that Ian Somerhalder would be playing Christian Grey I was kind of interested. Then I heard Charlie Hunnam would be playing Christian Grey. My interest heightened.

Those rumors faded and my interest did as well.

50 shades of GreyNow, don’t get me wrong – I’m not a prude. I’m just as fond of sex as the dominatrix down the street but reading about kink just doesn’t do it for me. That is what these books are about, right? BDSM and other random sex acts? That’s what I’ve gathered from listening to my friends who are obsessed with the 50 Shades of … series. Granted I stop listening around 2 seconds in after hearing the phrase “50 Shades” of anything.

I find it hilarious that half of my friends who have read 50 Shades of Grey are also the type of women who think porn is disgusting. Really?! Because it’s only porn if it’s on TV, right? One of my friends actually left her husband because she caught him watching porn on the computer. She’s been trying to get me to read the series for years. I’ve heard, countless times, that it’s all about passion and that it’s actually a love story.

I’ve read excerpts. There’s no way I’d compare 50 Shades of Grey to any love story I’ve ever read or watched. On the other hand I’m pretty sure the books have driven tons of sales to adult toy stores! So yay for economical advantages of “love stories” like this.

What about you, have you read 50 Shades of Grey or any other book from the series? Can you give me a reason why I should read 50 Shades of Grey?! Or, better yet, why I should see the movie?

Tell me: What do you think of 50 Shades of Grey?
